You’ve got a free half hour during your work day. What do you do?
I grab my walking shoes and my iPod and hit the pavements running. As the years are rolling by, I’m starting to notice that ‘some’ exercise is definitely better than ‘none’ and that sitting at a computer day in, day out is definitely not good for your physique or your spirit. Get those endorphins moving, people!
Who, or what, is your biggest inspiration?
I love ALL successful business people and entrepreneurs, especially women with children and family because, believe me, it's definitely a challenge!
When did you know you wanted to start your own business?
I have worked for over 10 years as an executive/personal assistant to some pretty dynamic male bosses and I guess I wanted a piece of the action!
What's the biggest thing you've learnt this year?
SEO and social media really does work if you can get your head around it and contribute two hours every day to blogging and uploading. Or you could take a gamble and talk to the SEO providers in India who can do it for you a lot more cost effectively than some web marketing companies in Australia.
What's the best bit of feedback you've ever had?
I have a lovely story to tell about a beautiful couple who wanted to get married, but under a different religious faith. After a very long time, they finally received their approval and acceptance to Judaism and the bride (Fijian) was ‘very’ pregnant and about to give birth at any moment. The groom (Sri Lankan) told me that they wanted their baby to be born under this new faith. So I received a phone call early one morning with a very last-minute request for a maternity wedding dress to be delivered that very same day. As luck would have it, we had the right size for her and I personally agreed to drive it down to her in Rose Bay, Sydney. The bride and groom were thrilled with the level of service that I was able to offer and I was thrilled for being able to be part of a very multicultural wedding!
What’s your proudest moment?
When my daughter was born.
What website do you find most inspiring?
Oh, it's definitely gotta be Facebook! It's brilliant and has brought social media to a new level of thinking. So many people benefit through the multiple connections, either personally or via your business, and independent media coverage is there for everyone to become informed and discover more about what’s going on in our planet.
What’s your number one stress relief tactic (keep it clean!)?
I wish I could say something clever here, but really, it's still a glass of chardonnay!
What’s your favourite film, book and album?
I’m currently reading an amazing book called Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, which is being turned into a movie. It's the author's biography of his very colourful life in Bombay, India – a must-read for anyone with a passion for India.
What’s the smartest bit of marketing you’ve ever done?
I’ve taken back the reins on my SEO and social-media marketing, and it's really paying dividends. I’ve become empowered by this increasingly changing domain and have begun to realise that it really is an art form.
What’s the one resource you’d never be without?
My iPhone. Sad, but true.
What’s the most obscure business request you’ve ever had?
A maternity wedding dress, ordered and delivered within three hours!
